Over the years, SWIWSCO and the Kilimanjaro community has benefited enormously from a large influx of volunteers from countries including Britain, Netherlands, Sweden, New Zealand, Germany, Australia and the United States. Volunteers have enriched the lives of the children and community immeasurably and many have also contributed materially in many ways, allowing SWIWSCO to expand and enhance its services and programs.

SWIWSCO’s Volunteer Program offers a range of volunteer placement opportunities in schools, hospitals, orphanages and community service organisations. Placement types range from formal internships to direct support (project) fees are approximately $200USD For medical students only.
The Volunteering visa cost $250 USD for non US and $300 for US citizens for 90 days, This can be paid at the airport up on arrival or we can help you to organize it once you arrive. Accommodation and food at Volunteers house shared room cost $150 per person a week full board. The rest of projects its free such as college, schools and orphanage, Examples of volunteer program activities include: cleaning, renovations, collecting much needed items including clothes, shoes, school uniforms, foodstuffs, bedding, etc., being of service to abandoned babies homes, elderly homes, street boys/girls’ rehabilitation centres, tutoring developmentally disabled children, helping out at a local library or national archives. Formal internship’s involve a partnership between the individual volunteer, SWIWSCO and the community. As the host organisation, SWIWSCO liaises between the volunteer and the community organisation to establish clear goals, consider issues, determine potential learning outcomes and define the volunteer work to be undertaken. The program aims to effectively and sustainably offer services needed by the community for the mutual benefit of all parties. The program aligns to SWIWSCO’s mission by promoting community and global awareness through personal involvement and responsible leadership/citizenry. A formal internship requires a minimum of 400 hours (3months) commitment. |
SWIWSCO’s Volunteer Program options can be flexibly scheduled to include a variety of placements across full or half days. Opportunities exist for individuals, couples, small families or small groups. SWIWSCO supports volunteers throughout the period of their volunteer experience.
