How to get here: There are several ways that volunteers come to Moshi: |
• Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) - Several international airlines fly into the Kilimanjaro airport including KLM, Condor and Kenya Airways. Volunteers will be met by our driver upon arrival at KIA. The drive (transfer) to Moshi takes approximately 50 minutes and costs $50USDpp.
• Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) - Dar es Salaam is the capital city of Tanzania to which almost every international airline flys. Transfers to Moshi are available by local or tourist bus. There are many bus companies that make the trip and buses leave frequently from the Ubungo bus station. The most comfortable tourist buses are Dar Express and Scandinavia Express. Bus tickets can be purchased at the bus station and the trip to Moshi takes approximately 8 hours. Our driver will meet you at the Moshi bus station to take you to your accommodation.
• Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) - Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya to which almost every international airline flys. Transfers to Moshi are available by local or tourist bus. Flight prices and bus transfers vary based on company, destination, and time of year so it is worth doing some research in advance. Fast Jet is a Tanzanian budget airline that flies from Dar es Salaam to Kilimanjaro far cheaper than any other airline. Precision Air is another Tanzanian airline which flies from all over Tanzania and surrounding countries to Kilimanjaro.
VISA Requirements:
Volunteers in Tanzania are required to have both a Tourist Visa and a Volunteer Work Pass. The Tourist Visa costs $50 USD (except USA, $100 USD) and can be arranged either in your home country with the Tanzanian High Commission or upon arrival in Tanzania.
A Volunteer Work Pass will be arranged by us following your arrival. The Work Pass is a Class C Resident Visa and will require:

Vaccinations:
It is recommended that a doctor is consulted on vaccinations at least four weeks prior to leaving home. General advice on travel vaccinations is available from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in the United States and the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK. A Yellow Fever Certificate is required if travelling to Zanzibar.
In comparison to other parts of Tanzania, Malaria is not considered common here. However, it is recommended that a doctor is consulted on anti-malaria medication. Use of a DEET- based mosquito repellent is strongly recommended.
