Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the world's most accessible high summits, a beacon for visitors from around the world. Most climbers reach the crater rim with little more than a walking stick, proper clothing and determination. And those who reach Uhuru Point, the actual summit, or Gillman's Point on the lip of the crater, will have earned their climbing certificates and their memories.

MARANGU ROUTE MACHAME ROUTE
The Marangu Route is also known as the "Tourist Route" and the "Coca-Cola Route." This is because Marangu is the most popular route on the mountain, and thus is considered "touristy", and because the route is the only one that offers sleeping huts, which serve beverages like Coca-Cola, on the way Below is a 6-day sample itinerary for Marangu DAY 1 Arrive Moshi Upon arrival you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Meet your climbing guide for briefing and final gear check. Overnight at the hotel. DAY 2 Moshi - Mandara hut (9,020ft/2750m) Drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Marangu for entry registration. Start the trek to Mandara hut through thick rain forest. Have packed lunch on the way. Dinner and retire for the day. DAY 3 Mandara hut - Horombo hut (12,200ft/3720m) Ascend through moorland with packed lunch on the way and end the day’s hiking at Horombo hut. Note: An extra day for acclimatization can be added by staying another night at Horombo hut. The day is spent on a hike to Mawenzi hut and back in the evening. DAY 4 Horombo hut - Kibo hut (15,420ft/4700m) Walk up, across the saddle, to Kibo Hut. Dinner and rest till Midnight. DAY 5 Kibo hut -Summit(19,340ft/5895m)- Horombo hut Midnight trek to the summit via Gilman’s Point. After a short period of photo taking at Uhuru peak, descend to Kibo Hut for breakfast. Continue down to Horombo Hut for the day’s and night’s rest. DAY 6 Horombo hut - Moshi Walk down to the park gate then drive to the hotel in Moshi town. DAY 7 Depart Moshi Depart Moshi for onward or catch flight back home. |
The Machame Route is known as the "Whiskey Route" in comparison to Marangu's "Coca Cola Route". This is because Machame is a more difficult route, and does not have sleeping huts for accomodation. Machame is the second most popular route on the mountain. Below is a 7-day sample itinerary of Machame
DAY 1 Arrive Moshi Upon arrival you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Meet your climbing guide for briefing and final gear check. Overnight at the hotel. DAY 2 Moshi - Machame hut (9,840ft/3000m) Drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Machame for entry registration. Start the trek to Machame camp through thick rain forest. Have packed lunch on the way. Dinner and retire for the day. DAY 3 Machame camp - Shira camp (12,470ft/3800m) Ascend to Shira Hut past the Shira plateau and through ridges and valleys. Stay here overnight. DAY 4 Shira camp - Barranco camp (12,960ft/3950m) Head eastward to a junction where we continue to Lava Tower Campsite (14,760ft/4500m), then descend to Barranco camp thus allowing your body to adjust to altitude change. Take the day’s rest here. DAY 5 Barranco camp - Barafu camp (15,090ft/4600m) Across the Karanga Valley and ascend to Barafu campsite. Have dinner and take the day’s rest ready for the hike to the summit. Note: An extra day for acclimatization can be added by staying overnight at Karanga camp then proceed to Barafu camp the next day. DAY 6 Barafu camp-Summit(19,340ft/5895m)-Mweka Start at mid-night for the Summit (Uhuru peak) arriving at sunrise. Descend back to Barafu for breakfast then further down to Mweka Hut. Have lunch and spend the rest of the day relaxing. DAY 7 Mweka hut - Moshi After Breakfast, descend to the park gate where a vehicle awaits to transfer you to the hotel in town. DAY 8 Depart Moshi Depart Moshi for onward or catch flight back home. |
